DIY-Advice
on Homes To Handyman Hardware & More...
Attitude and Imagination
are key factors when it comes to acting on good DIY-Advice. Anyone can
say, "I can't do this"! and you know... they're right. If you believe
that
this is the best information since sliced bread and gives you the
confidence to do-it-yourself, then you're also right!
When attempting
something new you must do your homework if you're to be successful and
that's why I set out to create this website. My goal is to provide
accurate information on everything from residential home repair and
Handyman Jack
subjects to holiday-recipes
continuously growing my handyman websites content so that you will
want to share this information with everyone you know.
I've always been good with my hands but it wasn't
until I purchased my first home that I encountered plumbing,
electrical, drywall repair, or carpentry problems. Being a thrifty guy
(by thrifty I mean I had no extra money) my first response was to
fix-it myself.
Prior to the Internet, good DIY-Advice was hard if
not
impossible to come by. Even today I struggle to find everything I might
need without an exhaustive search. So with that in mind, whenever I do
a new project or home repair, I'll bring it to you in this handyman
forum so that eventually you have a one-stop-shop for information on
everything from homes and handyman-hardware to how to starting a
handyman service.
I like to think that I've been in your shoes as a
DIYer. There was a point when I knew little to nothing about home
repair and like most DIYers I acted like an invincible teenager
thinking I could handle any project and get away with it. What I lacked
was experience... but that's a catch 22 situation. How am I to gain
experience if I don't take on a job I've never done before?
I may have gotten myself into trouble in the past
for having too much
confidence... but one thing is for sure, I always come out of a DIY
project WITH experience. I'm always learning! So keep this in mind, if
you lack the experience, your confidence can quickly turn into
confusion and frustration! Know your limits and take small steps.
Follow this DIY-advice, attempt small fixits like
replacing a light fixture, ceiling fan installation, or laminate
flooring installation to build your experience and confidence before
you jump into a full blown bathroom or overwhelming kitchen remodel.
When making the ultimate decision, should you
do-it-yourself, or should you hire a skilled contractor ask yourself
these questions:
1. Do I have the experience to tackle this job?
2. Do I have family or friends with the experience
willing to help?
3. Do I have an awesome set of Handyman-Tools
4. Can the tools I need be rented from the local
tool rental center or purchased cheaply?
5. Do I have to pull permits and adhere to
building codes?
6. How much time do I have to complete the project?
7. What happens if mistakes are made?
