Handyman-tools... You shouldn't live without
If you love tools like I do you're going to enjoy this handyman-tools section. I've been fascinated with tools since I was young, collecting automotive tools, woodworking tools, gardening tools and specialty tools of all kids. Tools are the equalizer to getting handyman-work done right and in a timely manner. If I can pass on some DIY-advice to those just starting out, lacking in the tool department and the money to stock your garage, don't despair. Tool companies such as harbor Freight and Northern Tool offer affordable handyman-tools for the DIY'er to complete just about anything you could come across.
One strategy I've used to stock my garage with tools over the years is to purchase a tool when I need it, to complete a handyman-job and justify the cost of the tool by the savings I get by doing-it-yourself. For instance, if you plan to lay some laminate or hardwood flooring you may want to purchase a miter saw. The saw will significantly increase your efficiency and cut down the amount of time it takes to complete the job justifying the purchase.
If you want to start-a-handyman-business, tools are your life blood. If you ask me, the more tools you have, the faster you can complete a job (the right way) and the more you can charge for your time. If you have the skills and the tools you will actually save you customers money and build you business. Think about it... You charge more for you time but since it takes you less time to complete a job you will save your customers money.
For instance... let's say that you are doing a ceiling-fan-installation. The fan is a 5 bladed fan... that means that you will have a total of 7 screws per fan blade, add that up and you have 35 screws to put in one by one. If you spent the money on a nice cordless power screw driver... your time is significantly reduced. A two hour job gets completed in one hour. If you charge
$75 an hour that's all you customer pays... but let’s say you only charge $55 an hour, put the screw in by hand but it takes you 2 hours to complete the entire ceiling-fan-installation. The result is that your customer pays $110. You, on the other hand are already working on the next job... by the end of the day
you've serviced more customers then you competition and made more money! That's what I call a win-win situation.
