Multi-Oscillating-Tool
The first multi-oscillating-tool I came across was
Fein's Multimaster, a great handyman-tool. I purchased it to do some
detailed sanding on wood carvings. After some extensive research on
what to use I decided on the Fein since it had so many other functions.
Since the patent has expired on Fein's design,
Dremel Tool (and others)
has come out with their own tool that's similar in
function. I've never used it but I like Dremel's other products and I'm
sure it would be great for a DIY'er. If you're a professional
handyman the Fein's Mulitmaster is the ultimate multi tool. Recently
Bosch has come out with thier own multi oscillating tool that's less
expensive than then Fein and it's cordless.
These mulit-oscillating handyman-tools are
designed to work in tight spaces and is great for cutting door jambs to
match the height of new flooring. It will also make quick work of
window repair…remove old glazing compound without a problem and without
any danger of breaking the glass. I’ve also used it to cut holes in
drywall for a new electrical outlet for a ceiling fan.
It will effortlessly remove old floor coverings,
such as carpet or PVC, cut
parquet, laminate, hardwood floor strips, and sand parquet flooring
accurately into difficult corners and edges. There's nothing better for
removing old grout for a tile repair. The different blades are pricey
but will last a long time as long as you let the tool do the work. If
you force the tool, I’ve noticed it tends to wear out the blades
quicker.
